John Gocong

The OSOME journey is navigated, owned, and operated by John Gocong and team. At 35 years of age and backed by a tenure of 17 years in the culinary industry. With an emphasis on Asian flavors and techniques boasting a focus on sushi; Chef John Gocong is excited to represent OSOME In-Home. Native to southern California brought to Austin by the culinary staple of Hai Hospitality and Uchi Restaurants he has been taking part in Austin's food scene for over 11 years and stresses the luck he’s had to learn from all of the people around him the past 17 years, likes of Philip Spear, Tyson Cole, Chef Katsu Hanamure, and Tim Dornan. Being of Hawaiian Filipino descent he is thoroughly influenced by Pacific Asian flavors and methods of cooking as seen in his sister restaurant Salty Cargo. He mentions the meticulous nature of preparing sushi and fish production compiled with the minimalist approach to Japanese influenced food is a constant challenge, which he hopes to put on display in your home as a guest of OSOME.
